Every time the BrowserHawk BDF service starts up I get the following informational message in my event log:
"The description for Event ID ( 105 ) (also may say ID 107) in Source ( BrowserHawk_BDF ) cannot be found.". What does this mean?

When the BDF service attempts to write a start up or shutdown event to the log file, this message may appear instead of the real start up or shutdown message on some systems.
This issue was resolved with BrowserHawk 5.0 so that the real startup/shutdown message is logged. However in some situations, such as after upgrading to 5.0, the necessary information may not be updated in the registry to resolve this and you may continue to get the "description for Event ID cannot be found" message instead.
If you are running BH 5.0 or higher and are not receiving the correct message in the log file, follow these steps to manually update the registry to properly display the event messages:

Close the event viewer, if open.
- Run regedit - standard disclaimer applies - if you are not familiar with this tool ask someone for help as you can cause problems on your system if used incorrectly.
- Open and highlight the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application
- Right click and choose New->Key from the popup menu. Name the key "BrowserHawk_BDF" (without the quotes). Be sure this key was created under the Application key you opened up to in the step above.
- On the right hand side of the screen, right click and choose New->String value. For the name enter EventMessageFile. Then double-click on EventMessageFile and enter the full path to your BrowserHawk.exe for the value data. For example "C:\Program Files\BrowserHawk\BrowserHawk.exe" (without the quotes). Click OK to save.
- On the right hand side of the screen, right click again and choose New->DWORD value. For the name enter TypesSupported. Then double-click on TypesSupported and enter "7" (the digit seven, without the quotes) for the value data, leave Hexidecimal selected, and press OK to save.

Close regedit and open the event viewer. All events that previously had the incorrect message logged should now reflect the proper message.
More details about this issue:
This message is caused by the start up and shutdown routines in the BrowserHawk BDF service. This occurs with all versions of BrowserHawk prior to 5.0 on all machines. It is an empty message without any meaning or significance other than to try and tell you that the service was started (event ID 105) or stopped (event ID 107) successfully. This message can be safely ignored.
Note: This message should not be confused with an event log message that says the BDF Service terminated unexpectedly. If you are getting that message please search the knowledgebase for more information on that error.
