How should I install the BDF files manually?
Created: 11/16/2001    Updated: 9/27/2004
Q   One of my licensed BrowserHawk servers does not have access to the Internet. What is the procedure for updating the BDF manually, instead of using the BrowserHawk Editor?

A   The safest and best way to update your BDF is by using the "Download latest BDF from cyScape" option found in the Special menu of the BrowserHawk Editor, or to use the Editor to configure the updates to happen automatically.

However, if you elected not to install the BH Editor, or your machine does not have access to the Internet, you can still update the BDF manually .

Since you cannot use the BH Editor to access the update (either because it is not installed or because there is no connection to the internet from that machine), you need to manually obtain a copy of the BDF.

If you have another BrowserHawk licensed server that does have the BrowserHawk Editor installed and has connectivity to the internet, you can use that copy of BrowserHawk to download the latest BDF from cyScape. Otherwise you should contact sales@cyscape.com to request you be put on a list to receive BDF updates via email when they are released.

Once you have the BDF updates, (in particular the files are maindefs.bdd and maindefs.bdf), copy BOTH of these files over to your other server, overwriting the existing ones. There is no need to reboot or restart any services afterwards. The BH component will detect that the file has changed and use the new definitions the next time it is called from your web scripts. Note to BrowserHawk4J JavaBean users: You can ignore the maindefs.bdf file, as it is not used by BH4J.

Note: All information in this article assumes your Support and Maintenance is current for each server where the BDF files are used or reside, as required by the BrowserHawk End User License Agreement.
