Am I correct to assume that the BrowserHawk component needs to be installed on the web server? Does any software need to be installed on each of my visitor's browsers?

Yes, the BrowserHawk component (either ActiveX, .NET, or JavaBean) needs to be installed on your web server. Once installed on your server, BrowserHawk will detect all your visitors. There is no software that gets installed or needs to be installed on your visitor's browser or machine, and all tests performed are unobtrusive.
