I am an end user and confused about how to use BrowserHawk
Created: 9/29/2005    Updated: 9/29/2005
Q   It was recommended that I try BrowserHawk to check on my browser because I am having problems using a company's web site. I downloaded the product, but cannot understand how to use it or how to get it going.

A   When someone recommended you try BrowserHawk, what they most likely meant is that you try running the BrowserHawk analysis to see what your browser and system settings are.

When this information is shared with technical support personnel that work for the company who's site you are having trouble with, it can be helpful in diagonsing why you may be having problems with their web site.

The BrowserHawk software itself (that you may have downloaded and installed), however, is only for web developers and programmers.

BrowserHawk is not a program that can be used by end users / consumers, because it requires that you are a developer with experience building web sites. It also requires that you have a web server (used by companies to put their web site online).

If you are a end user / consumer and have installed BrowserHawk you should remove it by going to the Start menu, Control Panel and clicking on Add/Remove Programs. Find BrowserHawk in the list of programs presented and press the Remove button.

You should recommend to the company who's web site you are having trouble with that they install BrowserHawk on their server. Once installed they can use BrowserHawk to help prevent most issues from occurring in the first place, and to automatically diagnose issues when they do occur. That is much more effective in resolving your issue compared to referring you to BrowserHawk for an analysis on your own that is difficult to understand without a technical background.
