Created: 11/5/2008    Updated: 11/5/2008
Q   I am trying to use the RET templates for Visual Studio, but receiving this error:
Warning browsercheck.aspx: ASP.NET runtime error: Could not load file or assembly BrowserHawk, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=46c7aa759dd506f7 or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

A   This is occurring because the version of the BrowserHawk DLL referenced in the RET template does not match the version of BrowserHawk in use (either through the GAC or as contained in your web site dll directory).

To resolve the issue, find your or file you are using and make the changes as follows:

  • extract the files to a temporary location

  • edit the MyTemplate.vstemplate file contained in the zip file as follows.

In the file find this line:

            BrowserHawk, Version=X.X.X.X, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=46C7AA759DD506F7
and replace the X.X.X.X with the version of BrowserHawk you are using. For example, replace with

  • To determine which version number to use, look at the version of the BrowserHawk.dll file in your dll directory or in the GAC if you are referencing it from the GAC, or look at your web.config file if a reference is in there.

  • zip the files back up. Make sure to preserve the RETFiles various directories so those files in its subdirectories are still in the same named directories as before.

  • Remove the old template from Visual Studio and use your modified version to add the RET template back in.
