Launching the installation program

To launch the installation program, run the setup file you downloaded from cyScape. This setup is based on Microsoft's Windows Installer technology (WI) to provide reliable install and uninstall operations.

There are two versions of the CountryHawk installation program available. One that contains the WI run-time, and one that does not. This run-time is needed in the event that your machine does not already have WI available as discussed below.

Windows 9x and NT 4.0 do not have the WI technology, unless another program you installed previously added this to your machine. Therefore if you are using Windows 9x or NT 4.0 you should download and run the version of the CountryHawk installation program that contains the WI run-time. This is marked in the download section of the cyScape web site.

If you prefer, you can download and the version of the CountryHawk installation program that contains the WI run-time regardless of your operating system. If WI already exists on your machine, the CountryHawk installer will skip installation of the WI and just install CountryHawk.

The advantage to downloading the version of CountryHawk without WI is that it is approximately 5 MB smaller, and therefore faster to download if you are using a dial-up connection.

It is recommended that you accept all installation defaults unless you are already familiar with CountryHawk. For example, when getting started it will be helpful to have the CountryHawk samples and help files (installed by default).
